Acerca de

Michael Scolarici, MD, is a UW Health infectious disease doctor and an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He works with patients who are facing infections, especially those who have had organ transplants.

Dr. Scolarici treats many types of infections, including bacterial, viral and fungal infections. He has a special interest in helping patients who have had solid organ transplants, like kidney, liver, or lung transplants. He also cares for people with rare lung infections called nontuberculous mycobacterial infections. These conditions often need long and careful treatment and Dr. Scolarici enjoys helping patients through that process.

When meeting a new patient, Dr. Scolarici takes time to understand their history and explain his thinking clearly. He believes in working together with patients to find the best plan for their care. He knows that every patient is different, and he tries to balance their needs with the risks they may face. His goal is to help patients live their best life after a transplant.

Outside of work, Dr. Scolarici enjoys running and spending time with his young children. They often play soccer together. He also works on research to improve care for transplant patients and is involved in training programs for other doctors.

My hope for each of my patients is that they feel like they’re taken care of, that their infection problem has been addressed, and ultimately that they go on to live a life that’s meaningful to them.
