Matthew Boyd, PTA, is a UW Health physical therapy assistant. He helps people of all ages regain movement and independence.
Matthew specializes in helping children and adults with physical and neurological needs. He focuses on treating children with autism, cerebral palsy and scoliosis and adults recovering from strokes. He also works with people who have orthopedic injuries and limb loss. As a certified lymphedema therapist, he helps patients manage chronic swelling and fluid retention to improve comfort and skin health. He is deeply committed to health equity and providing high-quality rehabilitative care to under-resourced and under-represented communities. He also works at the intersection of pediatric neurodiversity, aiming to build an inclusive environment where children with special needs and their families feel heard, valued and supported.
Matthew entered health care for personal reasons. After going through sports injuries, including an ACL tear, he saw how much quality rehab can help. His grandfather’s stroke also shaped his path, inspiring him to learn how recovery works so he could help people regain dignity and function. He believes in empowerment through education and views himself as a partner in care. He works to help patients understand why they are doing each part of treatment so they can take an active role in their own healing.
Outside of the clinic, Matthew enjoys cheering for Detroit sports teams and exploring new genres of music. He also likes learning about geography and upcycling old electronics by giving vintage devices new life.
