Dominic Siler. MD is a UW Health neurosurgeon and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He cares for patients in both the clinic and the hospital while also contributing to research that focuses on improving recovery after severe brain injury. He brings training in general neurosurgery as well as expertise in caring for patients with the most serious forms of brain and spine injury.
Dr. Siler treats a wide range of conditions, including hydrocephalus, brain tumors and spinal disorders such as pinched nerves and disc herniations. He also cares for patients with the most severe brain injuries, including stroke, intracranial bleeding and trauma. He is especially interested in preventing further injury once a patient arrives for care and in giving every patient the strongest chance of recovery. His academic work includes developing new therapies that may one day improve outcomes for people with major brain injuries, with the goal of bringing scientific breakthroughs directly into patient care.
When working with patients and families, Dr. Siler focuses on communication, clear guidance and shared decision making. He believes that patients and families hold essential information and that listening carefully is the only way to understand the full picture. He also knows that a brain injury is not only life changing for the patient but also deeply challenging for loved ones. Because of this, he works to provide a clear roadmap forward and make sure everyone understands each step of the treatment plan. He finds it especially rewarding to see patients after they leave the hospital and witness the progress they have made.
Outside of work, Dr. Siler enjoys spending time with his two children, whose hobbies have become his own. As a family, they are excited to explore Wisconsin and take on new adventures together. Originally from Portland, they enjoy discovering their new home and everything the region has to offer.
