ROCKFORD, Ill. — UW Health in northern Illinois has a new location for comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation care.

Whether it’s physical, occupational or speech therapy, it has a new home at the Spring Brook Rd Clinic, 7180 Spring Brook Road, Rockford.

This clinic is now the largest of the outpatient therapy clinics for UW Health in northern Illinois. It joins other therapy locations including the 9th St Clinic, 1301 N Alpine Rd Clinic Physical Therapy, Roscoe Clinic and Belvidere Hospital to serve the community. The new facility opened in November.

The new space will allow for more access to rehabilitation services all in one location and host complete therapy services for a wide range of specialties such as oncology, neurology and orthopedics, and to treat conditions including lymphedema and pelvic floor issues, according to Tanya Eikstadt, director, physical medicine and rehabilitation service and adult respiratory services, UW Health.

To support this new space, UW Health hired 14 people to grow the staff to 22.

The new facility was purpose-built for rehabilitation and physical therapy. It has a large gym that allows therapists more space to work with patients, as well as a long, wide corridor for rehab that requires walking and movement. Therapy rooms have an innovative pod design that allows therapists from different specialties to collaborate on a patient’s care during their visit.

“With mindful input from our therapists, the design focuses on the needs of our patients and their various medical conditions,” Eikstadt said. “It’s exciting to support our general orthopedic population while enhancing and growing our specialty services.”

Expanding therapy services in one location is a crucial step for the health system to increase access to specialty care such as cancer treatment and orthopedics, Eikstadt said.

“It’s great to have all disciplines — physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy — in one location to collaborate around patient care,” she said. “I’m really proud of this new facility and our ongoing growth in northern Illinois — what a labor of love.”
