Peter Newcomer, MD, Chief Ambulatory Medical Officer, UW Health

As Chief Clinical Officer for UW Health, Peter Newcomer, MD, provides clinical leadership for patient care across the UW Health enterprise with the goal of ensuring that patients in all settings receive consistently exceptional, evidence-based care and an outstanding patient- and family-centered experience. Prior to assuming his current role, Dr. Newcomer served for two years as UW Health's Chief Ambulatory Medical Officer.  


He also previously served as Vice Chair for Operations and Quality in the UW Department of Medicine, where he is also Professor of Medicine with an active practice at UW Health West Clinic. As Chief Ambulatory Medical Officer, Dr. Newcomer was instrumental in advancing many UW Health initiatives from Health Link implementation and optimization, to care transitions and coordination of care, as well as implementation of UW Health Ambulatory Service Standards.


A board-certified internist, Dr. Newcomer earned his medical degree at UW Medical School, then completed his internship and residency training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. In addition, he holds a master's degree in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University
