Melissa Dattalo, MD, MPH, is a UW Health primary care doctor who specializes in geriatric medicine and the medical director of UW Health Home-Based Primary Care. She’s also an associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Dr. Dattalo provides home health care for homebound older adults and patients in assisted living or memory care facilities. She diagnoses and treats patients who can’t get to clinics due to advanced illness or other conditions. She helps patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders, as well as people recovering from a stroke. In addition to primary care medicine, Dr. Dattalo specializes in comprehensive geriatric assessment. This involves thoroughly evaluating an older or frail patient’s physical, social, mental, cognitive (thinking) and functional abilities and surroundings. The UW Health home-based primary care team includes advanced practice providers, social workers, nurses, pharmacists, behavioral health specialists and others. Dr. Dattalo also involves family, support networks and caregivers. At every visit, she hears and addresses their concerns. She collaborates with her team and other specialists to provide customized, compassionate and comprehensive care. Outside of work, Dr. Dattalo enjoys gardening, basketball and board games. We customize our care plan completely to what matters most to patients and their family members.
