Inna Lobeck, MD, FACS, is a UW Health Kids pediatric surgeon and fetal surgeon and the director of the Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center. She is an assistant professor in the in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Lobeck specializes in all aspects of pediatric general and thoracic surgery as well as fetal surgery. As a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Lobeck performs general and thoracic (chest) surgery for infants and children, from birth through age 18. She has a clinical interest in congenital (present at birth) malformations of the lungs, diaphragm (muscle that controls breathing) and gastrointestinal (GI) system. As a fetal surgeon, she performs surgery for pregnant patients and developing fetuses starting at 15 weeks’ gestation. Offering surgical intervention while the baby is still in the womb can greatly improve the baby’s quality of life and sometimes even save their life. Dr. Lobeck places great emphasis on family-centered care. She uses clear communication, compassion and shared decision-making to build trust and partnership. She also educates her patients and families so they can make informed decisions about their care. Outside of work, Dr. Lobeck enjoys spending time outdoors, including hiking, kayaking, biking and skiing. It’s extremely humbling and rewarding to be a part of a patient and family’s journey and to make such a positive impact even before a baby is born.
