About

Justin Tawil, MD, is a UW Health anesthesiologist and an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He specializes in chest surgery and intensive care.

With board certification in critical care medicine, Dr. Tawil administers anesthesia for patients undergoing surgical procedures. He sees individuals with a wide range of heart, lung and blood vessel concerns, including inadequate blood flow to the organs. He performs diagnostic tests, including echocardiograms (ultrasound of the heart), and assists during procedures to place devices that improve heart function.

Recognizing that he often meets people at their worst moments, Dr. Tawil strives to provide comfort during every stage of their treatment and recovery. He takes time to ensure that his patients understand their conditions. He helps them make medical choices that fit their goals. Ultimately, he looks forward to watching his patients return home feeling stronger and healthier than before.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Tawil studies how heart and lung machines interact with blood.

My goal is to make sure that my patients leave feeling significantly better than when they arrived.
