Collection Instructions | Drugs suspected and known medications should be indicated. The laboratory strongly favors direct communication between the primary physician and the laboratory. Since the drug screen is a search for the presence of an unknown drug, any drug-related patient history communicated to the laboratory will give the analyst a point of direction in the testing of the sample and help expedite return of results. | ||

Additional Information | The Comprehensive Drug Screen screens for the presence of over 100 drug substances and drug metabolites in human urine by GC/MS. Report consists of immunoassay screening results and a list of drugs detected and definitively identified by GC/MS. Certain commonly encountered drugs such as morphine, hydromorphone, alprazolam, triazolam, and oxazepam may not be detected by GC/MS because they exhibit poor chromatographic properties. However, these drugs will give presumptive positive immunoassay screening results for the benzodiazepine or opiate classes. Certain toxic substances such as LSD, cannabinoids, alcohols, insecticides, cyanide, carbon monoxide, salicylic acid, water soluble drugs such as diuretics and many other chemicals and drugs are not detected by this procedure.
This is a comprehensive test which simultaneously screens for and confirms the presence of the following drugs: ANALGESICS: antipyrine, ibuprofen, naproxen, orphenadrine, phenylbutazone, tramadol ANTIDEPRESSANTS: amitriptyline, bupropion, clomipramine, desipramine, doxepin, fluoxetine, imipramine, maprotiline, mirtazepine, nortriptyline, paroxetine, sertraline, trazodone, venlafaxine ANTIEPILEPTICS: carbamazepine, felbamate, gabapentin, levetiracetam, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone, topiramate, valproic acid, zonisamide ANTIHISTAMINES: chlorpheniramine, diphenhydramine, doxylamine, pheniramine, pyrilamine, tripelennamine ANTIPSYCHOTICS: chlorpromazine, clozapine, olanzapine, quetiapine, thioridazine NARCOTICS: codeine, dihydrocodeine, fentanyl, hydrocodone, levorphanol, meperidine, methadone, oxycodone, pentazocine, propoxyphene SEDATIVES/HYPNOTICS: amobarbital, barbital, butabarbital, butalbital, carisoprodal, chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, ethchlorvynol, flurazepam, meprobamate, metaxalone, methaqualone, midazolam, nordiazepam, pentobarbital, propofol, secobarbital, temazepam, thiopental, zolpidem SYMPATHOMIMETICS: amphetamine, cathinone, cyclopentamine, ephedrine/pseudoephedrine, methamphetamine, methcathinone, 4-methylaminorex, 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxyethylamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, phentermine MISCELLANEOUS: amantadine, atropine, cocaine metabolites, cyclobenzaprine, dextromethorphan, diltiazem, disopyramide, fluconazole, lidocaine, phencyclidine, procainamide, propranolol, promethazine, scopolamine, strychnine, theophylline, ticlopidine, trimethoprim, verapamil
