American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology: Cytopathology
The UW Hospital and Clinics Cytopathology Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility specializing in the diagnosis of malignancy. All cytotechnologists are board certified with diagnostic training in all areas of testing. Board-certified cytopathologists provide timely diagnostic services to all health care providers.
Laboratory Services
Laboratory services include gynecological, non-gynecological and fine needle aspiration. Gynecologic testing is performed using the liquid based ThinPrep© method. Whenever possible, slides are then imaged before review, increasing test sensitivity.
Specific test and collection information on all Cytology specimens can be found in the Laboratory Test Directory. Search by "Cytology" to locate tests and collection instructions. For related tests not performed in Cytology, search by "HPV," "BK Virus" or "PSC."
BK Testing on Urines
Presence of BK is reported if detected on Urine Cytology. Only qualitative results are rendered. For quantitative results, send specimens to the Molecular Diagnostics Lab.
Consultative Services
Case/slide reviews are available on all cytologic specimens. Final reports on all consults are issued within 48 hours of receipt.
