An ideal place for regaining independence

Our goal: to help you achieve your highest level of recovery and return home as soon as possible.

Welcome to UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital. Located on Madison’s far east side, close to the intersection of I-90 and U.S. Hwy 151, we are a 50-bed acute inpatient rehabilitative facility dedicated to the recovery of people who have experienced stroke, brain and spinal-cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic injuries, trauma injuries and other conditions requiring inpatient rehabilitative services. Our goal: to help you achieve your highest level of recovery and return home as soon as possible.

Helping you return home quickly and safely

Situated on a 10-acre campus that allows for outdoor therapy and visitation, UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital provides a unique environment for patients. We focus on helping you recover toward maximum functional independence so you can return home as quickly and safely as possible.

Types of patients we care for

UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital is called an acute rehabilitation hospital, which is different from a skilled nursing facility or subacute rehabilitation facility. Patients admitted to an acute rehabilitation hospital like ours are expected to make significant improvement within a clearly defined period of time.

You may qualify for admission to UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital if you are at least 16 and have experienced any of these conditions:

  • Stroke

  • Brain injury

  • Spinal cord injury

  • Amputation

  • Orthopedic conditions (hip or knee replacement, hip or other fractures, etc.)

  • Burns

  • Multiple trauma

  • Dialysis

  • Neurological conditions (such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, or Guillain-Barre Syndrome)

Your rehabilitation team

Your rehabilitation team meets regularly to discuss your needs and goals. Based on your admission diagnosis, a projected date is set for you to go home. You and your family members are instrumental members of the rehab team, which includes doctors, rehab nurses, occupational and physical therapists, speech/language therapists, rehab psychologists, social workers and a case manager.

Your recovery is supported by our expertly trained staff in a facility that offers:

  • Patient rooms that are very spacious and ADA-accessible

  • A dining room. While currently closed due to COVID-19, this is where patients typically
    enjoy made-from-scratch meals.

  • An adaptive kitchen and functional living apartment where patients re-learn daily living
    skills
