Radiation therapy uses high-energy X-rays to kill cancer cells. Treatment may be directed at the entire breast or only the part of the breast affected by cancer. In some cases, radiation is used to treat lymph nodes near the breast. Radiation also may be used to treat the chest wall after a mastectomy. Your radiation oncologist will explain your cancer and treatment options in detail.
