This month's Activity Avenue introduces walking forwards and backwards in the water. Water walking is a great form of exercise that offers many benefits. It can be easy on your joints and offer you a good core work out.

If you don't have access to a fitness facility with water classes or a pool, see if your local hotel will offer you a drop-in fee to use their pool. See if you can motivate a friend to come with you for a workout buddy!

Depending on the exercise routine you select, water can be a place to speed it up (swimming, Aqua Dance or Deep Water running) or slow it down and breathe (Aqua Tai Chi, Aqua Yoga or Strength and Flexibility classes).

For this exercise start slowly, with just 10 - 20 minutes in the water. Movement in the water feels really good and feels deceptively easy, it is tempting to do just a little too much your first time in the water.

You can add side step or jogging steps if appropriate - experiment with movement a little!
