Overview
As you age, gravity, sun exposure and other factors take a toll on your skin. This can make it difficult to maintain a youthful look.
Face-lifts offered through Transformations at UW Health can help you look younger and fresher. Our expert cosmetic and plastic surgeons will create a treatment plan personalized for you.
About the treatment
A face-lift is a type of cosmetic surgery. It tightens the skin of your face, removing sagging and wrinkles.
The surgery does not correct sagging eyebrows, wrinkles around your mouth or excess skin and fatty deposits around your eyelids. There are other options for treating these areas. Sometimes we can do more than one procedure at the same time.
You may be a candidate for a face-lift if you have jowls, deep wrinkles or loose skin in your cheeks and neck. We treat men and women. You must be in good health and have realistic expectations about what surgery can do for you.
The cost of your face-lift depends on the complexity of your case. We can provide more information during your consultation.
The treatment process
We plan treatment based on your needs. The goal is to produce the best possible results for you.
If you’re interested in a face-lift, here’s what you can expect:
Your initial consultation allows you to learn more about the procedure and discuss your expectations. There is no charge for this service.
A medical evaluation is the next step if you decide to proceed. We go over your health history and medications to make sure surgery will be safe for you. We also address any remaining questions or concerns you might have.
Making sure you’re well-prepared for surgery can help your face-lift go well. It’s important to stop using tobacco well before your surgery. Your doctor may give you advice on diet and medication as well. Before your procedure, you should arrange to have someone drive you home and stay with you at least one night.
Surgery involves removing unnecessary fat, tightening certain muscles and re-draping your facial skin. Doctors use modest incisions in areas where any scars can hide within your hair or the natural creases of your skin. These animations provide more details:
After surgery, most people have little pain. You may have some short-term facial numbness, tenderness, tightness or dryness. At first, you may have a tube draining fluid from your ear. Some people have a bandage wrapped around their head to reduce bruising and swelling. Your bruising will likely improve after two to three weeks. In most cases, you can return to work after 10 to 14 days. You should wait at least two weeks to resume exercise and limit time in the sun for several months.
