The pit seen in the middle of the "Center for Sports Movement" room is for force plates and an instrumented treadmill. The room will also include 2D and 3D camera systems.

This room will have the capability of analyzing an individual's sport specific movement, including running mechanics, golf swing, throwing technique, cycling posture and alignment, and many more. This capability will be integrated in to sport specific rehabilitation programs, as well as programs for sports performance.

Pool Area

Construction of the two pools is also well underway. The pool in the foreground is a lap pool. This will be home to the swimmers clinic, as well as a place for swimming related performance programs.

The pool in the background of the photo is a warm water therapy pool. This pool will be used primarily for rehabilitation, allowing people who are unable to fully weight bear or lack strength for repeated movement against gravity to perform more functionally based rehabilitation exercises.

Outdoor Training and Rehabilitation Space

At UW Health at The American Center, sports rehabilitation and performance will not be just limited to the amazing indoor spaces. The outdoor training and rehabilitation space will include a training hill of various grades, a sand pit, field turf, a medicine ball wall and a suspension training structure.

It is anticipated that UW Health at The American Center will open to provide care for patients and programs for the community. When the new facility opens, Sports Medicine services will be offered there as well as the current location at Research Park.

Our comprehensive sports medicine services will be more than just a state of the art physical structure with staffing by a talented and world class team of physicians, surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers and strength coaches.

UW Sports Medicine is also significantly expanding the services offered to improve the health, wellness, and performance of athletes, including injury prevention, performance training, skill development and nutrition education. We are very excited and hope you are too! Stay tuned for more information in the coming months.
