Conveniently located at East Madison Hospital near the intersection of I-90 and Hwy. 151, The Learning Kitchen is the place to be to learn about practical life skills in cooking, meal planning, shopping for meals, mindfulness and beyond to prevent and manage chronic disease as well as enhance wellbeing. Our experienced team of chefs, dietitians and health coaches are here to support your journey. Working with experts across many fields will provide you with a well-rounded and complete experience.

If you’re new to The Learning Kitchen, you might think eating healthier costs too much or takes too much time. That’s why we offer techniques at mealtime to fit every budget, lifestyle and background. Our whole-person health approach considers what matters most to our patients and community, so you can develop valuable skills that last.

Boost your culinary skills and gain confidence in the kitchen with our monthly Intro to Cooking classes. Each session will focus on different cooking methods and recipes to help you become a more confident home cook.

Anyone! We offer classes specifically for beginners and advanced cooks (building blocks), as well as classes catered towards kids and families. Class handouts include recipes, detailed explanation of important kitchen skills and nutrition tips for all dishes prepared. Check the class schedule tab for a list of all our classes.

Our professional instructors include executive chefs and registered dietitians with strong training in food science and culinary arts who are excited to teach at all levels.

Prices vary based on the ingredients and format of the class. Please check the class schedule tab for the price of the class you are interested in.

You can view, register and pay for classes with UW Health's class registration tool. Classes change monthly so be sure to check back for more.

Please wear comfortable, flat, closed-toe shoes for safety reasons. Please also consider tying back long hair. You will be provided with an apron to wear during hands-on classes.

We encourage guests to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the start of a hands-on class to allow time for station set-up. For all other classes, we recommend arriving 5 to 10 minutes before the listed class time.
