After Your CT Scan
After you have completed the computed tomography (CT) scan, your health care team will review the images to make sure they are of an acceptable level of quality. If more images are needed, they will usually be taken right away. If the images are acceptable, you may return to your hospital room or go home, unless your doctor gives you other instructions.
The results of your CT scan will be given to your physician by the radiology team.
Patients who have completed CT scans should bear the following in mind:
- You should contact your doctor if you develop any signs or symptoms out of the ordinary
- Unless you have other tests scheduled, you may resume your regular diet after the exam
- Drink plenty of fluids. They will help eliminate the IV contrast from your body (if one was used).
