Pulsed Reduced-Dose Rate Radiation Therapy
UW Health radiation oncology is one of only a few centers in the country to offer pulsed reduced-dose rate (PRDR) radiation therapy. PRDR radiation therapy is delivered in a fashion similar to other external beam treatments, but at a much slower rate, taking 45 to 60 minutes to deliver each treatment.
Giving each radiation treatment more slowly helps normal tissues and organs resist any negative effects that the radiation might have on them. It is particularly useful for patients who have had radiation to the same area of the body in the past and has proven to be effective in relieving tumor related symptoms and in controlling tumor growth.
