About

Vivek Balasubramaniam, MD, is a pediatric pulmonologist at UW Health Kids and an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. He provides care for children with lung disease and aerodigestive disorders (conditions affecting the pharynx, larynx, esophagus and pulmonary tract).

Dr. Balasubramaniam treats children with a wide variety of conditions, including premature birth-related breathing issues, asthma, pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs) and interstitial lung disease (an abnormality with the structure of the lungs that causes breathing problems). He also evaluates and treats infants and children with aerodigestive disorders, which cause swallowing and breathing issues.

Dr. Balasubramaniam conducts research focused on aerodigestive diseases and how premature birth affects lung growth and function.

In his free time, Dr. Balasubramaniam enjoys downhill skiing, running and reading.

The most rewarding part of my day is talking with my patients and getting to know them. I love to see kids smile and often want to know if they have a good joke for me—I keep track of those!
