Stephen Sauer, MD

About

Stephen Sauer, MD, is a UW Health ophthalmologist. He is also an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

Dr. Sauer diagnoses and treats adults with a wide range of eye diseases and disorders. These issues include cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and eye problems that affect people with diabetes. He also prescribes and fits eyeglasses and contact lenses.

With a passion for helping people see better, Dr. Sauer listens closely to each patient’s concerns. He works to find out how their vision problems impact their daily lives. After examination, Dr. Sauer explains their diagnosis and outlines treatment options. He believes it’s important to treat everyone with respect. Together, Dr. Sauer and his patients create care plans designed to improve their vision and help them see better.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Sauer also teaches medical residents. He enjoys learning new care concepts, and he’s excited about passing along his knowledge to the next generation of ophthalmologists, as well.

During his free time, Dr. Sauer enjoys traveling, walking and morning yoga.

It’s rewarding to help patients see better and watch the positive difference that good vision can make in their day-to-day lives.
