About

Dr. Michael Pulia is a tenure track, Assistant Professor and Director of the Emergency Care for Infectious Diseases (EC-ID) Research Program in the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also Director of Emergency Medicine Antimicrobial Stewardship. Dr. Pulia strives to apply his research in the clinical setting to improve the quality of care for patients with infectious diseases.

Dr. Pulia has been an invited, expert speaker at national and international conferences including IDWeek, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), and the International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. In 2015, he was awarded the Barry M. Farr MD Humanitarian Award from the MRSA Survivors Network in recognition of his efforts to raise public awareness of bacterial resistance related to the overuse of antibiotics. Dr. Pulia served a 5-year term as Chair of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine’s (AAEM) Antimicrobial Stewardship Task Force. He also represented AAEM at the 2015 White House One Health Forum on Antimicrobial Stewardship and 2018 CDC Global Antimicrobial Resistance Challenge Kickoff event during the UN General Assembly.

Research and publications

Dr. Pulia serves on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine as the Young Physicians Section Director. This role allows him to advocate for important issues facing early career emergency physicians on a national level.  For contributions in both research and teaching, he has earned fellow status in the American College of Emergency Physicians.
