Dr. Squire is an internationally known UW Health joint replacement surgeon. He has performed over 6,000 joint replacement surgeries since starting his orthopedic practice in 2004. In the last 5 years he has performed 3,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries, one of the highest volumes in the Midwest. He is fellowship trained and performed his hip and knee replacement training at the highly competitive and #1 ranked hip and knee replacement specialty training center known as OrthoCarolina. Graduates of the OrthoCarolina training center are known for their advanced knowledge of hip and knee replacement surgery, cutting-edge high impact research, and excellent surgical skills. His training laid the foundation for Dr. Squire’s current surgical practice by exposing him to the most advanced surgical technology and minimally invasive Hip and Knee Replacement techniques which he has utilized and refined over the last 15 years.
Over his career, Dr. Squire has demonstrated an unparalleled track record of hip and knee replacement success. He is recognized as a “destination surgeon” who treats patients traveling from all U.S. regions including Alaska and Hawaii as well as patients from other countries. His extremely low complication and readmission rates, as well as his excellent patient satisfaction scores, have been instrumental in helping UW Hospitals achieve U.S. News and World Report’s top ranked Wisconsin Hospital status and UW Health’s Orthopedic Surgery Department top 20 ranking. Additionally, his surgical quality metrics were a key part in UW Hospitals obtaining Medicare’s highest performance ranking (excellent-top 2%) for total joint replacement care.
Throughout his practice, Dr. Squire has been a proud member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, International Consortium for Prosthetic Joint Infection, as well as the Arthritis Foundation. In conjunction with these organizations, Dr. Squire has been instrumental in developing “Best Practice” guidelines for hip and knee replacement surgeries. By following the “Best Practice” guidelines of these organizations, Dr. Squire has been able to obtain the greatest results and success for his joint replacement patients.
Dr. Squire is currently the Medical Director of the Wisconsin Arthritis Foundation. As Medical Director, Dr. Squire intimately understands how hip and knee arthritis negatively impacts personal health, well-being, and quality of life. Dr. Squire is committed to expanding educational and treatment outreach to patients living with arthritis so that they may move and live without pain. As a hip and knee replacement surgeon and Arthritis Foundation Medical Director, he sees every day how hip and knee joint replacement can remarkably improve the quality of life for patients who suffer from arthritis.
Dr. Squire holds a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering which gives him unique knowledge and insight as he performs stem cell and cartilage research as well as designs joint replacement implants and bone cement products. His research has been published in many international journals. He is the co-designer of an internationally distributed hip replacement implant system and has multiple shared implant design patents. He is co-director of the UW Health Joint Replacement Program where his primary duty is to ensure the highest possible quality of joint replacements performed at UW Health. He is a member of the UW Health surgical site infection committee, using his expertise to help ensure the safest possible operating room environment for all UW Health patients. He served as the UW Health orthopedic program director for seven years and twice has been awarded orthopedic surgery resident educator of the year.

Dr. Squire’s research interests include prevention and treatment of orthopedic infection, hip resurfacing, robotic hip and knee surgery, design of hip and knee replacement devices, avascular necrosis, cartilage regeneration and non-destructive implant removal.
