About

Maggie Steingraber-Pharr, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner who cares for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Maggie helps patients manage a variety of conditions related to high blood sugar. These include steroid-induced hyperglycemia (when steroid medications cause high blood sugar levels in people with pre-existing diabetes) and stress-induced hyperglycemia (when surgery, infection, trauma or medicine causes high blood sugar).

Maggie also advises patients how to use advanced diabetes technology, such as insulin pumps (small, computerized devices that deliver insulin to the body) and continuous glucose monitors (devices that measure the body’s blood sugar level 24 hours a day).

When not caring for her patients, Maggie enjoys running, cross-country skiing and spending time with her family.

I enjoy working with patients and families to control their diabetes, prevent disease and empower them to make the best decisions for their health.
