Kathleen O'Brien, MD

Kathleen O’Brien, MD, is a UW Health obstetrician and gynecologist and an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She provides full-scope obstetric and gynecologic care and has a subspecialty in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Dr. O'Brien is committed to supporting patients of all ages and is proud to be part of a collaborative medical team.

Dr. O'Brien sees patients from birth through age 26 for a wide range of gynecologic concerns. These include congenital anomalies, pelvic pain, heavy periods, ovarian cysts and contraception. She performs procedures such as hysterectomies, hysteroscopies, laparoscopic cyst removals and IUD placements under sedation. She also collaborates with pediatric specialists to care for children with complex conditions.

Dr. O'Brien believes in making patients feel comfortable, especially when discussing sensitive topics. She listens closely to each patient’s concerns and works together with them to create a treatment plan that feels right. Her goal is to help patients feel seen, heard and supported throughout their care journey. 

Outside of work, Dr. O'Brien enjoys baking, especially making fancy cupcakes. She also spends time with her spouse and two young children. Her personal experiences help her connect with patients and understand the challenges they face.

My hope for each patient is that they leave their appointments with me feeling like we're on the right track. I may not necessarily have the answers immediately, but I want them to feel like they've been able to have somebody listen to their problems and that somebody's on their team.
