Karina Conlin, OD, FAAO, is a UW Health optometrist. She performs comprehensive eye exams, prescribes glasses and contact lenses, and diagnoses and treats eye disorders and diseases. These include glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts (cloudy areas on the eye’s natural lens) and dry eye.

To correct vision or treat certain eye conditions, Dr. Conlin can prescribe rigid gas permeable contacts and scleral lenses. These lenses are custom-made for people who cannot comfortably wear regular contacts.

Dr. Conlin performs diabetic eye exams to check for signs of vision loss or blindness in people with diabetes. She also screens and monitors people who take medications that may damage their eyesight over time. (One of these medications is Plaquenil, a drug that some people take for rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and other autoimmune diseases.)

To improve eye care, Dr. Conlin and her UW Health colleagues conduct clinical research on scleral contact lenses. They measure inflammation on the eye surface of patients before and after wearing scleral contacts.

Dr. Conlin is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a diplomate (certified specialist) of the American Board of Optometry.

I provide state-of-the-art care to help people achieve their best vision. It's rewarding to help patients see better and improve their quality of life.
