Iliya Amaza, MD

Iliya Amaza, MD, is a UW Health pulmonary (lung and chest) and critical care doctor and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Amaza diagnoses and treats a variety of lung, breathing and chest disorders. These range from asthma and bronchitis to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer.

Dr. Amaza uses advanced approaches to evaluate, biopsy and treat lung and chest conditions. In addition to advanced pulmonary diagnostic and image-guided, minimally invasive procedures, he performs exercise testing to assess heart and lung health.

Dr. Amaza often treats patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) who are hospitalized with respiratory failure and other potentially life-threatening conditions.

Dr. Amaza’s current clinical trial research compares the effectiveness of different treatments for people who are frequently hospitalized with COPD.

In his free time, Dr. Amaza enjoys biking, traveling, exploring new cultures and trying new foods.

I educate patients about their condition and care. I try to imagine what it would be like to walk in their shoes, understanding their personal fears, concerns and treatment goals.
