About

Dawn Elfenbein, MD, MPH, FACS, is a UW Health general surgeon and an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

With fellowship training in endocrine surgery, Dr. Elfenbein diagnoses and treats endocrine (hormone production) disorders such as thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal gland diseases. She cares for patients who have benign (noncancerous) inflammatory thyroid conditions such as Graves’ disease, thyroid cancer and many other conditions. She uses advanced technologies and techniques, including neck ultrasound and minimally invasive procedures.

She spends a lot of time getting to know patients and discussing treatment options based on their personal goals and values. She assembles multispecialty teams when needed to treat more complex conditions.

In her free time, Dr. Elfenbein enjoys boating and other water activities, including sailing, rowing and all types of paddling.

I really enjoy my conversations with patients to personalize their care. It’s rewarding to see them go from not feeling well to suddenly not having that disease or illness.
