About

Azam Ahmed, MD, is a UW Health neurosurgeon. He treats patients with medical conditions of the brain and nervous system, primarily brain tumors, vascular problems, stroke and other conditions. Dr. Ahmed is also an associate professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Ahmed treats patients with serious brain tumors and strokes. Dr. Ahmed has a special interest in treating difficult neurological conditions. He uses a variety of surgical tools, including a thin tube called an endoscope to go through the patient’s nose to treat tumors in areas that are traditionally difficult to reach. He also sees many patients who seek second opinions about their diagnosis.

Dr. Ahmed builds trust with patients through open communication and shared decision-making. He ensures patients and their families understand their condition, treatment options and potential outcomes.

Dr. Ahmed’s research focuses on how to treat patients with stroke or cancer for the best outcome.

In his free time, Dr. Ahmed enjoys supporting his kids’ sports involvement, including ski jumping and hockey.
