Ambar Haleem, MD

Ambar Haleem, MD, is a UW Health infectious disease doctor and a clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Working in both the hospital and outpatient settings, Dr. Haleem diagnoses and treats people with all types of infections.

Dr. Haleem considers herself a medical detective of sorts. She works to determine what causes an infection and which antibiotic or treatment method will work best to get rid of it. She has a special clinical interest in treating infections that develop after complex surgeries such as neurological, vascular or joint replacement procedures. She also collaborates with surgeons to prevent surgical infections in the first place.

To provide the best possible care, Dr. Haleem listens carefully to her patients’ concerns and educates them about their infections. She answers questions and outlines treatment options. Dr. Haleem also researches new methods to treat infections and evaluates their effectiveness.

With her colleagues in the Department of Surgery, Dr. Haleem created a multidisciplinary wound care clinic within the UW Health Burn Center. There, they treat people with hard-to-heal wounds.

During her free time, Dr. Haleem enjoys reading, traveling, collecting antiques and spending time in nature with family.
