Acute Care Required Rotations

  • ED Orientation/Training
  • Emergency Medicine Adult — EM Basics
  • Emergency Medical Service and Pre-Hospital Focus
  • Emergency Medicine Pediatric/Nights
  • Emergency Medicine — Trauma
  • Emergency Medicine — Community Practice
  • Emergency Medicine — Teaching
  • Pediatric Intensive Care
  • Medical ICU/Surgical ICU
  • Neuro ICU or Cardiology/Cardiac ICU

Acute Care Elective Rotations (2 to 4 weeks)

  • Toxicology — Wisconsin Poison Center, Milwaukee (recommended)
  • Infectious Disease
  • Psychiatry
  • Others based on resident interest

Longitudinal Rotations

  • Clinical Management rotation — 12 months
  • Longitudinal Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Practice Experience (staffing) — 12 months
  • Longitudinal Education/Teaching/Drug Information — 12 months
  • Longitudinal Major Research Project — 12 months
  • Advising — 12 months

Activities while on the rotation will include, but are not limited to:

  • Rounding with the interdisciplinary patient care team daily (where applicable)
  • Daily patient profile review
  • Patient monitoring/problem solving
  • Investigation of medication error reports and adverse drug reactions
  • Drug information, literature searches and reading and contributing to team files
  • Team-related projects
  • Communication and interaction with staff
  • Contributing as a member of the care team
  • Medication order review
  • Direct care of emergency department patients
  • Direct participation in emergency response teams and activations
  • Procurement and facilitation of administration of medication therapy
