UW Badgers Say "Yes I Will!"

Jill Roach and her daughter on the Kohl's Center ScoreboardThe UW Badgers understand the importance of getting more donors on the Wisconsin Donor Registry. That's why this year the UW Badgers teamed up with the UW Health Organ Procurement Organization (OPO), Badger Sports Properties and Apple Vacations to create the Yes I Will Badgers Referral Contest. The contest ran from November 1, 2011 until February 28, 2012.

To enter the contest participants were encouraged to register as a donor on the Wisconsin Donor Registry (if they hadn't already registered) and to forward-on the contest opportunity to their social media contacts in an effort to get five or more people to do the same. The grand prize, an all expense paid trip to Cancun, was drawn at random from a group of 10 people who made the most referrals.

On March 4 the winner was announced at the Badger's final home basketball game. Ironically, one of our state's donor champions, Jill Roach - a nurse manager in the operating room at Mercy Oshkosh Hospital - was the winner.

"I am very active in the organ donation sector of my job and I am also involved with the Forward Focus movement," the first local donation improvement collaborative in the nation, said Jill.

"The reason I get so involved is because there are a lot of people out there that are not properly signed up online for the Wisconsin Donor Registry," said Jill. "We have to get the word out!"

The Yes I Will Badgers Referral Contest was just one of the OPO's many endeavors to get more people registered on the Wisconsin Donor Registry. Check out the events listing to learn more about how you can join this life-saving work.
