Let's Meet: The Leadership Team At UW Health OPO

The UW Health OPO, while continuing its rich history of success, has undergone a leadership transition. Their plan, both in structure and personnel, included strategic decisions that were aimed at achieving two objectives:
  • Maintaining the core principles and philosophies that have made the UW Health OPO successful for more than 20 years
  • Continuing to innovate to generate improvements

The team is committed to continuing to combine innovative thinking and excellence in patient service to keep their partnerships strong. They believe the changes they made both honor their history and preserve their future as a forward-focused team.

Changes in leadership at the UW Health OPO include the transition of Dr. Anthony D’Alessandro to the role of Medical Director, after serving as Executive Director for nine years. This change is due to his recent appointment as Director of the UW Health Adult Liver Transplant Program. Dr. D’Alessandro also serves as the Director of the UW Health Pediatric Liver and Multi-organ Transplant Programs.

Most recently serving as the Hospital Development Manager overseeing hospital development, community outreach and donor family services, Jill Ellefson accepted the position of Executive Director in August. During her eight-year tenure with the UW Health OPO, Jill has provided leadership and service to many organizations including two years as an AOPO Site Surveyor and two years as a member of the AOPO Standards and Accreditation Committee. Jill was on the first team to participate in the HRSA Organ Donation Breakthrough Collaborative and later served two years as a National Improvement Leader.

Since joining the UW Health OPO in 2001, Dina Steinberger, PA-C, has served in multiple roles including: Organ Procurement Coordinator, Hospital Services Specialist and most recently Manager of Quality Improvement and Regulatory Compliance. She has been involved in the HRSA Breakthrough Collaborative initiatives since September 2003, serving in various roles including team leader and faculty and improvement advisor for the collaborative management team.

Mike Anderson, PA-C assumed the role of Manager of Recovery Services and Veronica Lawrence, RN, serves as Clinical Manager. Susan Allen, Hospital Service Coordinator, leads the Hospital Development team.
