Title
Genomic Analysis of Long-Term Survivors with Metastatic Cancer
Objective
The purpose of the research is to see if we can find genes in your tumor that cause it to grow slowly, or genes in your body that help prevent cancer growth. Genes carry information that researchers use to help predict what will happen to people with metastatic cancer and help make decisions about their treatment. We hope to identify people who can live a long time with cancer and to discover how this might help other people live longer with cancer.
Description
You will be asked to provide a blood sample. We will also use a tumor sample for analysis. This tumor will come from a previous surgery or biopsy that was performed on your tumor and stored at the hospital, if one is available. As an option, if you are willing to have a biopsy, we will obtain a new tumor biopsy for research. A biopsy is not required for you to participate in this study. Although many cancer gene tests focus on a small number of genes, this project will analyze most genes to discover how people live a long time with cancer. The testing occurring in this project is different than the genetic testing typically done on a treatment study. The testing involves whole genome sequencing of your DNA from your tumor.
