The Division of Benign Gynecology has six physicians and three nurse practitioners providing care at seven distinct sites throughout Madison.

Our UW Health gynecologists provide a broad range of basic and specialized medical and surgical services, ranging from primary gynecologic health care— health maintenance examinations, diagnosis and treatment of minor disorders of the female reproductive system in adult and pediatric patients—to treating malignancies of the female genital tract.

The health problems unique to women often require the services of specialists. Our specialists in benign gynecology design specialized treatment for women of all ages with incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, sexual health issues, urogenital fistula, voiding disorders and other pelvic floor disorders. Our pediatric/adolescent gynecology clinic focuses on the urogynecologic health of children and teens, while our adult services provide care for women in their reproductive, pre-menopausal and post menopausal years.

We offer all patients first-rate, high-quality consultative services and we welcome the challenges of complex gynecological problems. Our benign gynecology division is recognized nationally and internationally for its excellence in urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery. In addition, our faculty physicians perform numerous complicated laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures on a daily basis.

A Day in the Life: Dr. Tova Ablove

Tova Ablove, MD decided to become a urogynecologist because she likes to take care of women.

While it is not a field that is, in her words, "life and death", it does have major impacts on a woman's quality of life. As a urogynecologist, she cares for women dealing with incontinence issues, prolapse and post-menopausal concerns.

Many women who come to clinic experience a dramatic improvement in their urinary complaints. One memorable patient for Dr. Ablove came saying she wanted to dance at her son's wedding. After treatment, the patient came back and said she was able to dance all night. According to Dr. Ablove, patients like that are, "the reason she is here."
