Q. What is the difference between SPF 15 and SPF 30?

woman applying sunscreen, UW Health Transformations Jeune Skin Care, Madison, WisconsinA. SPF (Sun Protection Factor) measures the amount of UV protection you receive from a sunscreen. To determine the protection level of a sunscreen, multiply the SPF rating by the amount of time it takes to develop reddened skin due to sun exposure.

This will vary individually. For example, if an individual reddens after 10 minutes in the sun, and is wearing SPF 15 (10 minutes x 15 = 150), the same degree of reddening would require 150 minutes. If the individual is wearing SPF 30 (10 minutes x 30 = 300), the same degree of reddening would require 300 minutes.

What is Rosacea and How is it Treated?

Rosacea is a common skin condition that may involve inflammation of the cheeks, nose, forehead, chin or eyelids. Rosacea may appear as redness, red bumps or skin eruptions similar to acne, or enlarged spider-like surface blood vessels. Other symptoms include a red, bulbous nose, a burning or stinging sensation of the face and irritated or watery eyes.

Dermatologists often recommend several treatments, depending on the individual patient. Oral and topical antibiotics and retenoids may be prescribed, as well as creams and lotions containing these ingredients. In severe cases, laser treatments or laser surgery may help reduce the redness by shrinking blood vessels or closing off diluted blood vessels.

There are, however, some skin care products available from Jeune Skin Care that can also be useful in treating the symptoms of rosacea. Some of these products include ingredients to soothe irritated skin as well as strengthen the dermis to reduce the appearance of broken capillaries and redness.
