UW Health Receives One of First Ever Madison Region Diversity Awards

UW Health and Exact Sciences are the recipients of the first-ever Madison Region Diversity Awards. The awards were announced at the end of the fifth annual Madison Region Economic Development and Diversity Summit on May 16, 2018. The summit was cohosted by the Urban league of Greater Madison (ULGM) and the Madison Region Economic Partnership (MadREP).

“We are pleased to share today our first-ever Madison Region Diversity Awards,” said Dr. Ruben Anthony, CEO of the ULGM at the event. "After four years of joint summits between MadREP and the Urban League, and the continuing advancement of diversity and inclusion efforts of companies across the region, we decided our fifth summit together was the time to begin recognizing those organizations exemplifying best practices in diversity and inclusion of the ULGM."

UW Health and Exact Sciences are the recipients of the first-ever Madison Region Diversity Awards"The Madison Region Diversity Award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to advancing talent, opportunity and growth for all the region’s citizens," continued Dr. Anthony. "We recognize that establishing equitable and inclusive organizations is a journey that grows and evolves over time. As such, we are not recognizing organizations that have 'achieved' diversity. Rather, we are recognizing and highlighting organizations that have made diversity a key part of their business strategy, and can demonstrate that they have taken steps on the pathway to inclusivity and equity."

UW Health was recognized for a number of its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, including the Health Occupations and Professions Exploration Program (HOPE) which has supported over 2000 underrepresented high school and college students in exploring healthcare careers in the Madison region; participation as one of the employer partners in the United Way HIRE Initiative; and being designated a Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality by Human Rights Campaign.
