UW Health Lauds Providers and Clinics for Patient Experience Excellence

Madison, Wisconsin - UW Health recently honored 44 providers and five clinics with its fifth annual Patient Experience Awards, which honors the physicians, Advanced Practice Providers and clinic teams who achieved the highest level of exemplary communication skills as recognized by patients through survey data (ambulatory/clinic-based patient surveys).

The Physician Champion Awards and the APP Champion Awards were presented to 31 physicians and 13 APPs, respectively, whose scores on patient experience surveys ranked among the top 15 percent of all UW Health providers evaluated in 2015.

These providers achieved the highest level of exemplary communication skills as recognized by their clinic patients. Responses from three questions on the survey determined the award winners:

  • My provider showed concern and sensitivity to my needs
  • I was given the chance by my provider to provide input to decisions about my health care
  • My provider explained my illness or treatment in a way I could understand

Each of the winning clinics scored in the top 15 percent (by primary and specialty care) for these three survey items:

  • I can usually get my questions answered when I call the provider's office.
  • My need was taken care of promptly and to my satisfaction if there was a problem.

These survey items were selected because the entire team's actions and behaviors directly influence the patient survey responses.
