UW Health Blood Bank Vital to Bringing Convalescent Plasma to COVID-19 Patients
Madison, Wisconsin - UW Health is proud of how all our staff have responded to this COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we’re sharing stories of staff from the UW Health blood bank, also known as Transfusion Services, who were instrumental in making the COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma program available to seriously ill patients in a timely fashion.
The Convalescent Plasma program is part of a nationwide initiative to investigate the experimental use of blood plasma from people who have recovered from COVID-19 as a potential treatment method for modifying the course of the COVID-19 disease in people who are currently fighting the virus.
Transfusion services professionals at UW Health have been praised by leaders of the national consortium for their efforts to move this important clinical trial forward quickly, safely and effectively.
