UW Health and Habitat for Humanity
UW Health faculty and staff recently found volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County, Inc. a fun and fulfilling way to reinforce teamwork and give back to the communities we serve.
UW Health's first foray into work with Habitat was Saturday, August 15, 2009. Staff from across the organization exchanged scrubs for jeans and shorts, button-down shirts for t-shirts and name badges for name tags as they picked up hammers and saws to build a home for a deserving family. It wasn't all work though. There were plenty of smiles and time for pictures with heavy construction equipment as well.
Then on Saturday, November 7, employees teamed up to refurbish a once worn out house to its full potential. Healing and renewing an old house used a skill set different from the one staff use to care for patients and families, but the satisfaction of helping others felt very familiar.
