Remembering Hailey: Rath Family Presented with Rose Bowl Parade Florograph

Madison, Wisconsin - The University of Wisconsin Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) recently returned a treasured work of art to the Rath family.

A florograph of their daughter Hailey, who was an organ donor in 2005, was created by the Rath family and placed on the Donate Life America Rose Bowl Parade float last January.

The OPO obtained the florograph, framed it for the Rath family and presented it to them with gratitude for their dedication to the mission of organ donation.

Hailey and her mother were on their way to go Christmas shopping in December of 2005 when they were involved in an accident. Hailey died as a result of her injuries, and the Rath family donated Hailey's organs.

More than 72 lives were saved or improved from Hailey's organ and tissue donation. Hailey's heart beats in a young woman who lives in Michigan.

The OPO's Dina Steinberger (second from left) and Trey Schwab (far right) join the Rath family. To honor Hailey, and bring attention to organ and tissue donation, the Raths and a group of their friends started the Hailey Rath Memorial Event. This family-oriented annual event includes a run/walk in the morning and music festival in the afternoon and evening.

The event raises money for the UW OPO Donor Education Fund, which raises money for donation education and awareness activities. The Raths are volunteers with the OPO and are active in organ and tissue donation education and awareness at events, speaking engagements and by supporting other donor families.
