MADISON – Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle issued an Executive Order to lower all flags on state property to half-staff in honor of the three fallen crew members of UW Health's Med Flight, Darren Bean, MD, Mark Coyne, RN and pilot Steve Lipperer.

The flags were lowered on May 15, 2008 in honor of Dr. Bean and Steve Lipperer. They will be lowered again on May 19, 2008 in honor of Mark Coyne. The dates precede their respective memorial services.

The State Legislature also issued a joint resolution honoring the three men and expressing "their heartfelt sorrow and deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Bean, Mr. Coyne, and Mr. Lipperer." A copy of the resolution will be given to the family members.

"In our moments of greatest peril, our lives depend on the courageous work of Med Flight personnel," Governor Jim Doyle said. "Dr. Darren Bean, Mark Coyne and Steve Lipperer dedicated themselves to rescuing people who faced the longest odds, and we owe them tremendous gratitude for their extraordinary service and dedication. I pray for them, their families and all the others who love them."

Tributes to Dr. Bean, Mr. Coyne and Mr. Lipperer continue to be submitted to UW Health's Web site from across the world. More than 600 submissions from colleagues, friends, family, the medical community, EMS and rescue medicine personnel, former patients and those simply wanting to express their condolences have been entered onto the site.
