Drive For Hope Charity Golf Tournament Raised $80,000 for the UW Carbone Cancer CenterMADISON-The Drive for Hope 2008 fundraising efforts have resulted in a total donation of $80,000 to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center's "Creating Hope" Lung Cancer Campaign to provide facilities, researchers and support for lung cancer research.

The impressive 2008 contribution was made possible by the generosity shown by the Madison-area community at several events, including the third-annual Drive for Hope golf tournament, held August 11 at Bishops Bay Country Club; the inaugural Celebrate Hope party on August 10 at Capital Brewery; and the first Drive for Hope Online Auction, which ran for two weeks in July. Since 2006, Drive for Hope has donated $243,000 to the "Creating Hope" Campaign.

"The community's amazing support has made a real difference in the search for better treatment and a cure, not just financially but also in the amount of hope it has given lung cancer patients and their families," said Craig Hanson, whose parents, Sue and Eugene Hanmer, lost their battles with breast cancer and lung cancer, respectively.
Hanson thanked media partners Madison Magazine, ESPN Radio 1070, the Wisconsin State Journal and numerous area businesses including the Malcolm Stack Foundation, Uniek, Inc., CUNA Mutual Group, Summit Credit Union, TDS Telecom, Morgan Stanley and Springs Window Fashions, who sponsored and supported the Drive for Hope tournament, Celebrate Hope and the Drive for Hope Online Auction, as well as donating items to the raffles and auctions, monetary contributions and goody-bag insertions.

Drive for Hope will be held next year on August 10, 2009, at The Legend at Bergamont in Oregon, Wis. To sponsor next year's Drive for Hope or to donate an auction item, visit, contact Karin Weiss at 608.288.5341 or e-mail Drive for Hope.

The Credit Union Executives Society, an organizer of this event, is a Madison, Wisconsin-based independent membership association for credit union executives worldwide. Its mission is to advance the professional development of credit union CEOs, senior management and directors.
