Jeune Skin Care: Ask the Experts

Q. Does dry skin cause wrinkles?

A. The simple answer to this question is no. However, many people feel that if they slather on moisturizer every day, they will reduce or prevent dry skin and then, in turn, reduce the chance of getting wrinkles.

Well, the truth is that many things cause wrinkles… but many of them have nothing to do with whether or not the skin is dry. For example, sun exposure, heredity, cellular aging and muscle movement are many of the things we can blame for our wrinkles.

However, there is a connection between dry skin and aging. Underneath the surface of our skin lies collagen and elastin. Both require moisture in order to function properly. Without the moisture, the underlying layer is damaged, thus the production of collagen and elastin slows down, causing the skin to cave in. This is the connection.

Unfortunately, if our skin is dry or dehydrated, our wrinkles will look much more apparent, as well, because the moisture allows our skin to appear plump.

The best solution is to keep our skin looking radiant by giving it what it needs: water. Moisturizer is always a necessity, but is it enough? There are moisture-enhanced products available that can help attract water from our own skin and hold it in the surface.

One such product (available at UW Health Transformations Jeune Skin Care) is SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel. It contains hyaluronic acid, the body's natural hydrator to help bind moisture to the skin. It is enriched with vitamin B5 to maximize your daily moisturizer. It will give the little benefit of plumping fine lines and will certainly get your skin through this cold winter season!Share This Story
