Q. What treatments do you offer for facial hair removal, besides waxing and tweezing?
A. Laser Hair Removal
is a treatment that's becoming more and more popular over the years for removing unwanted hair on the face or body.
Laser hair removal is a process in which a thin beam of laser light passes through the skin to target unwanted hairs. As the light penetrates the hair follicle, it disables and destroys the hair at its root while preserving the surrounding skin.
Usually, this process results merely in slow hair growth. However, multiple laser hair removal treatments result in a greater reduction of hair - anywhere between 20 and 90 percent. The results vary with each individual.
Laser hair removal works best on people with dark hair and fair skin. This is because the laser beam is solely attracted to melanin (the dark color of the hair). Unfortunately, white, gray or even red hair is not as responsive. Those with dark skin or suntans may not be good candidates.
The side effects of laser hair removal may include minor pain, swelling around the hair follicle and redness and inflammation lasting one to three days.
If you are interested in laser hair removal, UW Health Transformations
offers this treatment. You will first be seen by a Transformations doctor or a nurse practitioner to make sure you are a good candidate and to have your questions answered. Then you will be seen by one of our qualified Jeune Skin Care Medical Aestheticians
for the treatments.
