Employee Profiles: Shelley

Shelley is a Senior Executive Assistant who has been with UW Hospitals and Clinics since January 1984.
At Work I…
… do a lot! I'm always working on multiple tasks, so I need to be able to manage several things at once and have good organizational skills. I manage a lot of the hiring paperwork, am learning how to do our department's budget, coordinate annual meetings, make travel arrangements, take meeting minutes, Shelley Rausch, Senior Executive Assistant, UW Hospital and Clinicsmaintain purchase orders, and work with a large group of students. My goal each day is to always provide good customer service to both internal and external customers. I work on the phone a lot, so first impressions are very important. In my role I also work with a lot of highly confidential information so being a trustworthy employee is important.

What has been your favorite project?
I don't have one particular project that sticks out as being the most exciting, but I enjoy coordinating events such as the rapid design sessions and the Quality through Safety Grant.

Talk about the culture.
UW Hospitals and Clinics is a culture that is always changing. There's always something new and exciting happening! In the 24 years that I have been here, it is nice to see employees be recognized for their hard work more and more. On the flipside, it's fun to work for an employer who earns so many distinguished awards, recognizing what a great place this is to be as an employee or a patient. UW Hospitals and Clinics has come far in working together more as one big team. There are at lot of very happy employees at UW Hospitals and Clinics.

What is your favorite benefit?
UW Hospitals and Clinics gives us so many opportunities through working here. We're able to improve our health through our Employee Wellness program, take classes to improve our skills, and we're given many special employee discounts – the discounts on movie theater tickets are my favorite!
