The gallbladder is located on top of the liver. During a radical cholescystectomy, the gallbladder and the liver are removed.


A radical cholescystectomy is usually performed when there is either suspected or proven gallbladder cancer. The procedure usually includes removal of the lymph nodes in the area and can include a bile duct resection.
