For Health Professionals: Vascular Health Screening
Orders may be faxed to (608) 890-7401
UW Health's Vascular Health Screening Program helps physicians identify patients with atherosclerosis - hardening of the arteries that can lead to heart attacks and stroke - before it can be detected with blood or stress tests.
About Vascular Health Screenings
Vascular health screening involves a specialized carotid ultrasound test to measure carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), the thickness of the walls of the carotid arteries, and looks for atherosclerotic plaques before they cause symptoms. It is a painless test that does not require undressing, exercising or drawing blood. Test results will be sent to the ordering provider to review and share with the patient.
If further consultation is desired, a referral to the Preventive Cardiology Physician Clinic can be placed by calling (608) 263-1530.
