Stephanie McGregor, MD

Stephanie McGregor, MD, PhD, is a UW Health surgical pathologist and an associate professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. McGregor uses a microscope to analyze tissue samples (biopsies) to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities. She specializes in surgical pathology for breast and gynecologic (reproductive system) disorders, which includes conditions such as breast tumors, endometrial cancer and ovarian cysts. Dr. McGregor has an interest in improving data-driven cancer classification through integration of understanding tumor biology and diagnostic reproducibility. She also studies biomarkers (measures of what’s happening within the body), disease progression and response to treatment.

Her research focuses on endometrial cancer. As she and her colleagues learn more and more about diseases and different ways to treat them, Dr. McGregor believes that they must be flexible and adaptable in how they think about cancer and its treatments. 

Outside of work, Dr. McGregor enjoys gardening, crossword puzzles, board games and playing the piano.

Though I do not see patients directly, my work plays a major role in determining how we treat them.
