About

Shivani Garg, MD, is a UW Health rheumatologist and assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Garg diagnoses and treats people with autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

As director of the UW Health Lupus and Lupus Nephritis Clinic, Dr. Garg specializes in controlling lupus (an autoimmune disorder that affects multiple organs) and lupus nephritis, which affects kidney function. Her clinical research also focuses on lupus, how various life factors impact the course of the disease, how to tailor medicines precisely to meet each patient’s needs and how to diagnose the condition sooner.

Dr. Garg takes a patient-centered approach to care. She listens carefully to her patients’ concerns and considers key symptoms to diagnose and treat each condition. She offers visual aids to help patients understand exactly how the disease affects their body and their overall health and provides several treatment options. Through informed decision-making, she then creates personalized, effective care plans tailored to her patients’ needs.

Dr. Garg’s hope is that all patients can pursue their life goals without being burdened by their chronic disease.

In her free time, Dr. Garg enjoys painting.

I tell my patients that we are a team. We’ll work together to fight their disease so they can feel better and live life to the fullest.
