About

Patrick Varley, MD, is a UW Health surgical oncologist (cancer surgeon) and an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Varley treats patients with a wide range of cancers, including skin cancer and tumors of the digestive system, such as in the colon, pancreas, stomach and appendix. His special clinical interest is treating metastatic colorectal cancer inside the abdomen. This is cancer that has spread from the colon to other parts of the abdomen.

In addition to performing surgery, Dr. Varley works to provide patients with all other treatments necessary to fight their cancer.

During office visits, Dr. Varley listens to his patients’ concerns and outlines their treatment options. He believes it’s important to help his patients understand how their treatments work so they can make the best choices. He welcomes questions before and after surgery and explains what to expect during the recovery period.

As a researcher, Dr. Varley studies the best ways to treat people with cancer and how to improve their experience.

During his free time, Dr. Varley enjoys woodworking and making furniture.

I work to match the right treatment option for each individual patient — the option that gives us the best chance of successfully fighting their cancer.
